Executive search, as we know it, often falls short because most design it to be a static solution to a dynamic problem. Neither the candidate nor the hiring team can be relied upon to behave in a perfectly rational manner at all times - people are complex after all. Organizations are constantly changing, in response to a dynamic environment they operate in. Naturally, strategies need to evolve in order for an organization to thrive (or survive), which consequently affects what is expected of specific roles and individuals. Thus, when hiring for a specific leadership position with a point-in-time view on the required knowledge, skills, and abilities, it is no wonder that many fail to hit what is essentially a moving target. By the time we factor in “culture fit” (or in our opinion, what should be “culture-add”), getting it right becomes all the more challenging. Our bottom line is this: Executive search needs to be as transformational as the context in which it is employed.
